About Richard
Real Estate Broker Richard Grassby
Experience
- Richard Grassby recently moved to Chapel Hill from Maryland so that he and his wife could be near her children and grandchildren, who live in the Triangle. He has been both a professor at Oxford University in England and a broker, investment advisor and financial officer on Wall Street. When he retired from the financial services industry he devoted himself to writing books on finance and art, while practicing as an international dealer and consultant in art and antiquities
- He is particularly interested in the design and furnishings of historic houses, several of which he has personally owned and restored, including a sixteenth century farmhouse in England, a nineteenth century schoolhouse in the Highlands of Scotland, two nineteenth century farmhouses in Pennsylvania and Maryland and a Federal townhouse in Funkstown, Maryland that served as a hospital during the Civil War after the battle of Antietam. He can therefore offer special services to those interested in buying or selling vintage and historic houses, including advice on valuation, maintenance and restoration.
- He brings to the Triangle real estate market both his expertise in financial markets and a wide ranging knowledge of residential architecture. As a newcomer to North Carolina he has vivid personal experience of all the problems generated by relocation. When assessing the potential of homes, he can also call on his wife, Kay Bosgraaf, a poet and former professor of English and Creative Writing and presently a fashion designer and specialist in fabrics and interior decoration.
